Boring Portfolio

Boring Portfolio Report
Wednesday, June 26, 1996

by Greg Markus (MF Boring)

ANN ARBOR, MI, June 26, 1996 -- The stock market was all adither today, but you wouldn't know it by looking at the Boring Portfolio's activity -- or, better, lack thereof.

While the NASDAQ tumbled down hill from the opening bell and the S&P 500 sold off later in the afternoon, the Borefolio moved precisely not at all -- other than the $27.49 it shelled out in commissions to acquire 100 shares of Cisco this afternoon, at a price of $53 5/8 apiece.

Not only was the Borefolio inert, so was the news with respect to our current holdings -- with the exception of one stand-out, which will be noted momentarily.

First, though, let's note our gainers for the day. Oxford Health Plans once *again* found some footing on the ledge provided by its 200-day moving average line (I put that in for our technoids) and gained 50 cents on Wednesday. Borders, Shaw Group, and Texas Industries advanced, as well.

Green Tree gave back three-fourths of the dollar it gained yesterday. Prime Medical dropped two-bits, as did LCSI. PMSI's drop is no big deal. LCSI's came on volume of nearly a half-million shares, however -- or approximately 9% of outstanding shares. Very big deal.

So big, in fact, that in the hour after the market closed today, I decided to pull the plug on LCSI.

Between then and now, I wrote up the reasoning behind that decision. It's posted in Boring's Portfolio Trading History & Trade Announcements, and it contains a lesson -- or a lesson for me, at any rate.

That's about it for tonight. A fittingly boring recap to end a boring day.
