ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Feb. 2, 1998) -- Five of six Boring stocks rose today, increasing the portfolio's net value by 1%. Not bad, but nothing like the better than 2% gains rung up by the benchmark averages on this exuberant Monday.
Irrationally so? Hey, don't ask me.
Borefolio newcomer Andrew Corp. (Nasdaq: ANDW) led the way for our little bag o' stocks, surging better than 6% to a bid of $29 1/8. No news that I spotted.
After rising $2 and establishing another new high early in the session, Cisco Systems (Nasdaq: CSCO) settled for a $7/8 gain. Some folks apparently elected to lock in profits ahead of the Kid's quarterly earnings report, slated for tomorrow after the close. According to First Call, the consensus estimate is for earnings of $0.42, with the range spanning from, $0.40 to $0.43. In the year-ago quarter, Cisco earned $0.34 per share.
Cisco today announced that two new members were elected its board of directors at the board's Jan. 20 meeting. They are Mary Cirillo, an executive vice president of Bankers Trust, and James C. Morgan, chairman and CEO of Applied Materials (Nasdaq: AMAT). The additions of Cirillo and Morgan raises the number of Cisco board members to 11.
Atlas Air (NYSE: CGO) ascended $1/4. The company just announced that their fourth-quarter earnings report will occur on Wed., Feb. 11, in the morning.
