The following video is part of our "Motley Fool Conversations" series, in which Motley Fool senior technology analyst Eric Bleeker and chief technology officer Jeremy Phillips discuss emerging trends in technology.

In today's edition, Jeremy and Eric discuss the Silk browsing technology in Amazon.com's new Kindle Fire. Even though Amazon priced the Kindle Fire as a volume play, the company has made a commitment to innovative technologies as well. This generation of the Kindle Fire might be targeting a price point below the iPad, but Amazon's commitment to technologies such as Silk show that the company's long-term aim is to be far more than the "budget-priced tablet." That means future tablets could target Apple more directly.
