For the quarter ended Dec. 31 (Q4), HollyFrontier beat expectations on revenues and whiffed on earnings per share.
Compared to the prior-year quarter, revenue increased significantly and GAAP earnings per share increased significantly.
Margins grew across the board.

EPS came in at $1.06. The 14 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ predicted $1.34 per share. GAAP EPS of $1.06 for Q4 were much higher than the prior-year quarter's $0.14 per share.

For the quarter, gross margin was 9.4%, 500 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 7.5%, 540 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 4.5%, 380 basis points better than the prior-year quarter.
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $4.03 billion. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $1.08.
Next year's average estimate for revenue is $17.55 billion. The average EPS estimate is $4.52.
The stock has a five-star rating (out of five) at Motley Fool CAPS, with 675 members out of 708 rating the stock outperform, and 33 members rating it underperform.
