Amazon's (AMZN -1.38%) Web Services division issued a public apology for the outage that affected service to customers of Netflix's (NFLX 0.75%) streaming service for several hours on Dec. 24. In a post on its website, the division said the disruption was caused by a developer who accidentally erased data critical in the running of such a service.
Web Services said that it was making a "number of changes" to protect against future outages of this type.
Sounding a contrite note in making its apology, the division said in its statement that "[w]e know how critical our services are to our customers' businesses, and we know this disruption came at an inopportune time for some of our customers."
