Defense contractor SAIC (UNKNOWN:SAI.DL) announced in a press release Thursday that the U.S. Navy's Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center (SSC) Atlantic has awarded the company a contract worth up to $667 million. The agreement for SAIC to provide technical and systems engineering support is over one year, with two one-year options that could extend the contract to its maximum value.
SAIC will support SSC Atlantic's program to eliminate duplication in its command operations. The company will furthermore integrate production processes into a single facility and provide support to a number of programs, including the Tactical Operations Intercommunications Network and the Naval Tactical Command Support System, among others.
SAIC senior vice president and business unit general manager Jim Thigpen was quoted in the release as saying, "Our efforts and experience with large-scale integration and systems engineering efforts have set the stage for our work on this contract... This expertise will enable us to provide SSC Atlantic with technological solutions that will ultimately streamline efforts and help to deliver platforms more rapidly to the warfighter."
