On Friday, Geeknet (NASDAQ: GKNT) -- parent company to ThinkGeek.com, online retailer to the socially awkward -- announced that it has promoted Chief Financial Officer Kathryn McCarthy to the position of president and chief executive officer. Current Chairman and CEO Ken Langone will sacrifice the latter title but remain chairman. As for the CFO's post, Geeknet announced that it's promoting Vice President of Financial Planning and Analysis Ali Sorbi to that position. All three of these changes go into effect March 1.

New CEO McCarthy was hired away from General Electric (GE -3.06%) in January 2011. Sorbi is a former manager of financial planning and analysis at Rosetta Stone (RST).

Geeknet shares responded positively to the C-level moves, rising 1.7% to close at $15.32 Friday.
