DreamWorks Animation's (DWA) The Croods has taken over the top spot in DVD and Blu-ray sales for the week ending Oct. 5, according to Rentrak's (NASDAQ: RENT) weekly Top 10 sales and rentals tracking service, Rentrak said in a statement today. The Croods, in its first week of release, replaced Iron Man 3, which dropped to third, as the top-selling DVD and Blu-ray movie.

Though Iron Man 3 was unseated from the top of Rentrak's weekly DVD and Blu-ray sales survey, it jumped from second to first in rentals for the week, flip-flopping with World War Z, last week's No. 1 DVD and Blu-ray rental, according to Rentrak.

Two re-released classics, Disney's (DIS -0.55%) Little Mermaid -- Diamond Edition and Warner Bros.' (TWX) The Wizard of Oz -- 75th Anniversary Edition, both made their debuts in the top 10 DVD and Blu-ray sales this past week, at Nos. 2 and 6, respectively, though neither made the top 10 list of weekly rentals.

Oblivion takes the honors for the longest-running movie on Rentrak's list of top 10 DVD and Blu-ray rentals for the week, coming in eighth after nine weeks of release. That's down two from last week's No. 6 ranking on the list of most popular rentals, according to Rentrak.
