Shares of Mattel (MAT -0.88%) jumped 5% today after the company reported a strong quarter, which included a 20% revenue increase from its American Girl Doll segment. Motley Fool analyst Taylor "Hot Wheels" Muckerman was surprised by the success of the segment and impressed by the company's 8% sales growth quarter over quarter. However, he is a little concerned that most of Mattel's strength comes from dolls even as technology grows in popularity. That said, he thinks that Mattel will do well this Christmas season thanks to recurring revenue from the dolls segment. For true strength, however, he'd like to see better numbers from the company's boys segment.
