Fool Portfolio Report
Monday, November 6, 1995

Good show! The Fool Portfolio resisted the downward movement of the overall market today to post its seventh consecutive gain. We haven't lost a dime since October 26th. What's more exciting, actually, is the magnitude of our gains. To wit (since 10/27):

10/27: +2.67%
10/30: +2.81%
10/31: +0.84% (market down that day)
11/01: +1.80%
11/02: +1.16%
11/03: +1.52%
11/06: +0.54% (market down today)

Without going back and checking ALL the records, I believe this has been our portfolio's single greatest seven-day run.

So watch us lose money tomorrow, now that I've cursed us. MAKE MONEY NOW! SHORT THE ENTIRE FOOL PORTFOLIO!!!

Moving right along, we had some ghastly moves today from some of last week's finest stocks. America Online, which put us on its back and carried us through the first few days of November, dropped us Monday, surrendering $1 1/4 on the bid. Our two hot chip stocks, Applied Materials and KLA Instruments, declined $1 1/4 and $2 1/4, respectively.

No news on any of those, by the way. Just not a very good day for NASDAQ technology stocks.

Or was it? What's this?! Iomega up $1 5/8 to bid $26 1/4, the highest close in two months?!!! MF Chiros reported in our new and improved Iomega folder (it's cleaned itself up a fair amount in the past week) that Prudential had put the stock on its "Quantitative Buy List." In other words, some techie somewhere liked the numbers. We'll take it. Iomega just climbed back to a 74% Foolish return.

And The Gap kept gapping up, up another $1 1/8 to a new high today. The clothier is expected to post impressive Christmas comparisons, and the market appears to be recognizing this and rewarding holders of this beaten-down stock. GPS is now up 32% for us, vs. gains in the S&P 500 and NASDAQ of 17% and 30% over the comparable period. In other words, this one is now beating the khaki pants off its S&P 500 peers.

Sears also rose with the retailers, up $7/8. And the difference in the day overall was probably Ride's rise of $5/8, since that great stock exerts a fair amount of weight over our portfolio, now, up 144% as it is.

Heck, even good ol' Sonic rose $3/8, back over the $8 level. The market appears to be looking a bit more kindly on these shares once again, following the bitter pill of the last earnings report we swallowed. That's been par for the course.

In closing another satisfying day on the market, I'd like to mention that we have an AUDITORIUM EVENT featuring RIDE INC. tomorrow night at 10 PM ET in The Globe. Come by and hang out with fellow Fool shareholders and fans as we analyze the stock's past, review the current situation, and look toward the future. In addition to our MF expert on the case, MF ETurkey, we're working on getting a company rep or outside analyst to join us; more details about that tomorrow. For now, Riders, mark your calendar!

Fool on.
