Back in 2012, SoFi Technologies (SOFI 3.69%) was started with a focus on student-loan refinancing. Fast-forward nearly a decade and it has become so much more. After getting taken public via a special-purpose acquisition company (SPAC) by Chamath Palihapitiya's Social Capital Hedosophia, it is now available for the public to own.
