The filing went on to say that the company had "activated its incident response protocols" and that the issue was impacting its "ability to process and ship customer orders." Key Data Points
Cybersecurity incidents, data breaches, and ransomware attacks are becoming all too common, and advances in artificial intelligence (AI) are only making matters worse. In its 2026 "Cost of a Data Breach" report, IBM revealed that the global average cost of a data breach rose to $5 million. Losses are not limited to the detection and remediation of the incident but also include lost business. The average cost of a breach in the U.S. is even higher, climbing to a record $11.5 million, more than twice the global average and up 13% compared to last year.
Perhaps the biggest problem with security breaches is the loss of confidence among customers and users, which can cause some to move on.
Only time will tell how serious this cybersecurity incident was for Boston Scientific. Investors should keep a weather eye on the horizon as new details emerge.
