The Bitcoin (BTC -2.86%) bear market finally appears to be over. Bitcoin is now up more than 40% from its summer lows, and could be headed to a price of $100,000 by the end of the year. Once it breaks through this psychologically important price barrier, the sky's the limit.
In fact, I'm predicting that Bitcoin will be worth $5 trillion by the end of 2030. Here's why.
The path to $5 trillion
A market cap of $5 trillion might sound like pie-in-the-sky thinking until you start to do the math. For the sake of argument, let's assume that Bitcoin hits a price of $100,000 by the end of the year.
From there, Bitcoin will need to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 25% over the next four years. If it does so, it will hit a price of $250,000 and a total market cap of $5 trillion.

Key Data Points
The big question, then, is: Can Bitcoin really grow at a CAGR of 25%? Certainly, the historical evidence would seem to indicate as much. In the period from August 2017 to July 2026, Bitcoin grew at a CAGR of nearly 34%.
Thus, while a CAGR of 25% might be well-nigh impossible for most assets, that's not the case for a digital asset such as Bitcoin. In fact, it might be underestimating Bitcoin's future upward trajectory. In many years, Bitcoin has grown at triple-digit rates. Even as recently as 2023 and 2024, Bitcoin turned in triple-digit performances.

The only problem, of course, is that there is no obvious catalyst for Bitcoin right now heading into 2027. The Clarity Act just failed. Interest rates are going up, and oil is near $100 again. That's not exactly the recipe for a crypto bull market run.
Or is it? Remember -- Bitcoin has historically been uncorrelated with any major asset class. So it can zig when other assets zag. If investors begin to view Bitcoin as the perfect hedge against macroeconomic uncertainty in the U.S., money could pour into Bitcoin, sending it much higher.
Is Bitcoin really worth as much as Apple or Nvidia?
A market cap of $5 trillion will put Bitcoin into an exclusive club. Right now, only two companies -- Apple and Nvidia -- have market caps higher than $5 trillion.

Key Data Points
Does Bitcoin deserve to be in this $5 trillion club? From my perspective, the answer is an unequivocal "yes." Bitcoin is not a company -- it's the future of money, a store of value, "digital gold," and the ultimate hedge against a weakening dollar. Its exponential gains over the past decade are unlikely to be a fluke. With the bear market over, Bitcoin could be ready to resume its inexorable march higher.
