On Feb. 27, Cablevision Systems (NYSE:CVC) released fourth-quarter earnings for the period ended Dec. 31.

  • Sales increased by 13.5%, as a result of growth in advertising revenue, digital video, voice and data services, and Ethernet data services.
  • An 88.9% decline in net profit was due to a loss in derivative contracts and an increase in interest expenses (which was partially offset by a gain in investments).
  • The company has plans to launch the first video on demand (VOD) channel specifically designed to educate businesses on the benefits of Metro Ethernet.
  • Cablevision Systems has only earned a one-star rating in the Motley Fool's free stock-rating service, CAPS. Its competitor, Discovery Holding (NASDAQ:DISCA) has earned three stars.
