E-tail giant Amazon.com (AMZN -0.54%) has launched a desktop client for its Cloud Player streaming music service.
When the company launched Cloud Player over two years ago, it was initially accessed through a web browser. Shortly thereafter, the company launched mobile apps for Cloud Player, including for Apple's (AAPL -1.43%) iOS platform.
The new desktop app currently only supports Microsoft (MSFT -0.27%) Windows PCs, but the company added that it is "working on a version" for Mac users. The program allows Amazon users to play, manage, and download music easier with a native interface. Amazon says Cloud Player is lightweight and fast, emphasizing quick performance.
It will also include Amazon's AutoRip service, where buyers of physical CDs will see MP3 versions of songs automatically added to Cloud Player.
