General Motors (GM -0.04%) will need to find a new executive to be responsible for two of its iconic brands in Europe. The company announced that Susan Docherty, its current president and managing director of Chevrolet and Cadillac on that continent, will step down from her post, effective Sept. 30. According to GM, she is departing "to spend time with her family."

A longtime executive at the big carmaker, Docherty has held a number of managerial positions in the company. Among other jobs, she has been vice president of international operations sales, marketing, and aftersales, and general manager of Buick-Pontiac-GMC.

In the press release announcing the news, GM said that Docherty "will continue to work with the Chevrolet and Cadillac team in Europe in the near term to ensure a smooth transition."
