NextEra Energy (NEE 0.51%) announced today that its 124.4-megawatt Summerhaven Wind Energy Centre in Canada is officially operational .

The Ontario wind farm has been in development since 2006, and its 56 turbines  are capable of generating enough energy to power about 32,000 homes .

"We are proud to be a part of an initiative that not only contributes to Ontario's renewable energy supply, but powers the local economy in Haldimand County," Ben Greenhouse, director of development for NextEra Energy Canada, said in a press release. "We would like to thank all of our community partners for their support throughout the development of this project and look forward to continuing to create even greater economic opportunities for Haldimand County during the life of this clean energy project."

This latest addition is another feather in the cap of the windiest of utilities. NextEra operates 100 wind farms across 19 states and Canada, amounting to 10,000 net megawatts in total and equivalent to 57% of the company's total generation.
