On Oct. 31, United States Steel (NYSE:X) released third-quarter earnings for the period ended Sept. 30.

  • Sales increased by 28%, mainly because of higher demand in the steel market.
  • There were also dramatic improvements in margins and cash from operations.
  • The near-term forecast is a bit of a bummer, though, with results expected to decline somewhat, thanks to, among other things, a "recent weakening in the U.S. economy."
