Fast facts the Fool way.

On Dec. 20, worldwide shipper and Motley Fool Stock Advisor recommendation FedEx (NYSE:FDX) released second-quarter earnings for the period ended Sept. 30.

  • Revenues jumped 10% thanks to increased total combined average daily package volume at FedEx Express and FedEx Ground, which grew by 7%.
  • Operating margin was under pressure as a result of costs associated with the new pilot labor contract.
  • The company recently acquired ANC Holdings, a U.K. domestic express transportation company, and entered into an agreement to acquire Prakash Air Freight, its Indian express service provider.
  • Due to higher fuel costs, management is tightening its annual earnings guidance range to $6.35 to $6.65 per share, and third-quarter earnings are expected to be in the range of $1.20 to $1.35.
  • Rich Smith gives his take on the company's quarter, and its future, in "FedEx Is Just Fine."
  • The stock rates a solid four (out of five) stars in Motley Fool CAPS.
