On Feb. 14, digital music service provider RealNetworks (NASDAQ:RNWK) released earnings for the fourth quarter ended Dec. 31.

  • The figures below exclude Microsoft's (NASDAQ:MSFT) litigation settlement payments, which totaled $60.9 million this quarter and $434.4 million last year. Putting those amounts back in, RealNetworks made a $0.22 profit per share, but it's hardly a fair measure of sustainable income levels.
  • With that distortion removed, you can see that RealNetworks is doing much better than it used to. It's not far from turning profitable without help from the legal system, and there's already plenty of cash flow.
  • The drastic increases in accounts payable and receivable point to business picking up, as well. The company is receiving more orders for its services, and in turn goes out and buys more stuff from its suppliers.
