How do you fight a much larger rival? Hire its best managers.
AMD (NYSE:AMD) just hired a couple of high-level executives, after losing a couple of key managers in the last couple of months. Hiren Israni and Gautam Mukherjee will head up a revamped "emerging markets" team, with responsibilities for operations and original equipment manufacturers (OEM) relationships, respectively.
Israni's experience running the Southwest Asian operations for Motorola (NYSE:MOT) sounds very appropriate, but Mukherjee's resume reveals an even tastier steal: He used to run the Community PC sales force for archrival Intel (NASDAQ:INTC). What tricks and tips did these guys bring along to the party? I guess we'll see in a couple of quarters, when they've had a chance to make a difference in their field.
