What: Shares of China-based, after-school tutoring provider TAL Education Group (NYSE: XRS) scored an A+ today by jumping as much as 29.3% amid torrential trading.

So what: TAL's first-quarter earnings beat the consensus estimate by a wide margin and the revenue outlook for next quarter also looks great.

Now what: Investors are taking TAL's fine quarter as a good sign for Chinese tutoring services in general. Fellow tutoring expert Xueda Education (NYSE: XUE) followed along with a 14% climb and China Education Alliance posted a 6% gain despite both being more than a week away from their own earnings reports. Mind you, they all have one-star or two-star CAPS ratings (out of five) and very short market histories. Be careful out there when digging for gold among Chinese small-caps.
