A Swiss newspaper has reported that Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) paid $21 million for the right to use the iconic Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) clockface in its iOS 6 mobile operating system.
Apple and SBB announced a licensing agreement in October, but agreed to keep details confidential. Several news outlets are today reporting on a Tages-Anzeiger report.
SBB takes pride in its iconic clock, designed by Swiss engineer Hans Hilfiker in 1944, and still used in SBB stations. The railroad doesn't see Apple's use of its design without permission as necessarily a bad thing.
"We're rather proud that a brand as important as Apple is using our design," an SBB spokeswoman told news agency AFP in September.
