Software giant Microsoft (MSFT 1.82%) recently said it sold 750,000 Xbox 360 units over the Black Friday shopping weekend. That's down from the 960,000 consoles moved during last year's holiday weekend, but is still an impressive figure for a console that's seven years old. It's also more than the 400,000 Wii U units that Nintendo sold recently after launching the brand-new console. Sony (SONY -0.13%) and Microsoft have both sold 70 million units over their consoles' lifetimes. Still, mobile gaming platforms like Apple (AAPL -0.35%) iOS and Google (GOOGL 10.22%) Android remain a threat to consoles. There's even an Android-powered lightweight Ouya console being launched soon that may threaten to disrupt the traditional gaming business.
