PC giant Hewlett-Packard (HPQ -0.44%) has announced that it is launching a new consumer tablet running Google (GOOGL 10.37%) Android, the Slate 7. The device will carry a 7-inch display and easily integrate with the search giant's plethora of online services, including its Google Play content storefront.

The new tablet is the second recent HP product to embrace Google platforms, as HP also announced its first Chromebook earlier this month. HP's enterprise tablets primarily run Microsoft Windows 8, but the company is choosing Android to spearhead its consumer-driven tablet strategy.

The Slate 7 is expected to launch in April and retail for $169.
