Miniaturization specialist Tessera Technologies (TSRA +0.00%) and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD 0.98%) have agreed to settle all pending litigation between the former's subsidiary Tessera and AMD over patent infringement allegations, Tessera Technologies announced yesterday. The specific financial terms of the agreement are confidential.
The case extends all the way back to 2005 when Tessera alleged that AMD and Spansion infringed on several patents surrounding the manufacture, use, and sale of packaged semiconductor components and assemblies. A number of other defendants including Advanced Semiconductor Engineering, ChipMOS Technologies (IMOS 1.99%), and STMicroelectronics were added to the lawsuit the following year. Some of the defendants added to the lawsuit countersued, claiming Tessera's patents were invalid.
ChipMOS was dropped from the lawsuit last year after payment of back royalties.
Tessera's Intellectual Property Corp. president, Bernard "Barney" Cassidy, was quoted as saying the company was "glad to see AMD join us in moving beyond this litigation," as both agreed to dismiss claims and counterclaims between them.
Tessera said it will not be providing additional financial guidance in connection with this agreement.
