Groupon (GRPN 8.21%) has appointed Sri Viswanath as its senior vice president of engineering and operations. He will report to interim CEO Eric Lefkofsky.
Previously, Viswanath served as vice president of research and development for mobile computing at VMWare. Prior to VMWare, he worked at Glam Media as the senior vice president of engineering and as general manager of its publisher products group. He had also worked at Sun Microsystems, where he led development of a number of open-source and business-to-business products.
In Groupon's press release, Lefkofsky said, "We are extremely excited to add someone of Sri's reputation, talent and vision. Technology is at the center of our mission to surprise and delight consumers every day with unbeatable deals when they are out and about."
