The iconic Trolls line of dolls now belongs to Hollywood. DreamWorks Animation (NASDAQ: DWA) has bought the rights to the familiar, big-haired plastic figures. The acquisition makes the firm the global licensing agent for the merchandise rights for the Trolls, except in Scandanavia. There, Dam Things -- the company founded by the dolls' Danish creator Thomas Dam -- will hold the rights.
In the press release announcing the move, the company did not disclose the terms of the deal.
DreamWorks Animation added that it has hired Shawn Dennis as head of brand development in order to develop its new property. Dennis had previously served as senior vice president, marketing, product development, and publishing at American Girl, the popular doll maker that is currently a subsidiary of Mattel.
