Retail bookseller Barnes & Noble (BKS) will be adding the official Google (GOOGL 0.35%) Play store to its newest Nook tablets, the company announced today.

Both the 7-inch Nook HD and 9-inch Nook HD+ devices will receive a software update to add Google's content storefront. Doing so will make more than 700,000 apps and games available.

Barnes & Noble will also add several of Google's most popular services to its devices, including Chrome, Gmail, YouTube, Search, and Maps. The software update will roll out beginning today over Wi-Fi. CEO William Lynch said the move would deliver even more entertainment value to the company's award-winning tablets.

Nook HD tablets start at $199 and $269 for the 7-inch and 9-inch models, respectively.
