Don't Make a Big Bet Based on Just These Small Devices

While new gadgets are extremely intriguing, investors shouldn't make buy decisions based on one device.

In the following video, Fool contributor Matt Thalman discusses why investors should avoid getting caught up in the hype about Google's (GOOG 0.57%) new glasses, or what could be a new trend in wristwatches. While these gadgets will surely intrigue many consumers, the question of how many people will actually purchase the devices causes Matt to hit the pause button.

But, that's not to say that this technology couldn't evolve in the coming years and perhaps start a new revolution in a similar way that Apple's (AAPL +0.11%) iPhone changed the way we use cell phones.

Matt first became interested in the stock market while attending West Virginia University. A finance professor told a story about how a few thousand dollars invested in Mylan Pharmaceutical's stock in the 1970's had turned a number of employees, some even working as janitors at the company, into millionaires after holding onto their shares for more than 30 years. The seed of investing in quality stocks and holding those positions for a very long time was planted.
