How GM Beat Ford in Quality

The latest JD Power Initial Quality Study came with a big surprise: General Motors was the industry's top dog, while Ford slipped way down. Here's what really happened.

To the surprise of many observers, the latest JD Power Initial Quality Survey ranked General Motors (GM +0.16%) way ahead of Ford (F 1.27%). In fact, GM was the industry's big winner, with eight "segment" awards and all of its brands in the top tier, while Ford plummeted in the standings.

How did this happen? Plenty of people feel that Ford's current product line is its best ever, while GM still has work to do. In this video, Fool.com contributor John Rosevear looks at how GM ended up at the top of the auto-industry quality heap – and at why Ford's strong new products got clobbered in the rankings.
