Luxury hotel operator Orient-Express (NYSE: OEH) announced yesterday that shareholders at its annual meeting elected a new chairman of the board to the company, Roland Hernandez, along with eight other directors.
Hernandez has had a successful career in media and communications, having previously served as CEO of Telemundo Group, as well as being the founding principal and CEO of Hernandez Media Ventures since 2001. Hernandez also has experience in the hospitality industry having served as lead director of MGM Resorts International and Vail Resorts.
Hernandez currently serves on the boards of MGM, Vail, and US Bancorp, and recently stepped down from the board of Sony.
He will be a new, independent director for the hotel chain and represents Orient-Express' ongoing process of regularly renewing its board of directors.
"It is an honor to have been named Chairman of Orient-Express Hotels during such an exciting time of growth for the company," said Hernandez in a statement. "We have a strong foundation of unique assets and I am looking forward to working with my fellow directors to provide strategic counsel to John (Scott, O-E's president and CEO) and his team as they execute on their long-term strategy to deliver value for investors."
The hotel operators outgoing chairman, J. Robert Lovejoy, and board member, Philip R. Mengel, both retired from the board following the annual meeting, as they had previously announced.
The shareholders also reappointed Deloitte as Orient-Express' independent auditors.
