Coal and iron ore producers have underperformed compared to the market over the past year. Despite being two of the biggest players from either industry, Peabody Energy (BTU +0.00%) and Cliffs Natural Resources (CLF +3.79%) have lagged the S&P 500 over the past year by 54% and 85%, respectively.
