Just over five years ago, Apple (AAPL 1.27%) released the App Store and changed the direction of the mobile world. Today, there have been more than 50 billion downloads on the App Store, and global app sales are expected to pass $25 billion this year. Apple itself collects about two-thirds of global app sales, while Google (GOOGL 0.55%) Play and app stores from Microsoft and BlackBerry collect most of the remaining app dollars.
