The big news in robotics has been the adoption of the RIA/ANSI F15.06 2012 safety guideline earlier this year. This is a pivotal moment in robotics because the new standard allows for companies to use collaborative robots in the workplace and remain ANSI certified, as long as they comply with the new guidelines. It also should lead to the development of standards by the International Organization for Standardization, which are considered more important than ANSI standards. Yaskawa Electric offers a great explanation of the impact of the standards in this video

With this new standard in place new marketplace opportunities have arisen for robotic companies, such as ABB (ABBN.Y 0.70%), iRobot (IRBT -0.14%), Yaskawa, and Rethink Robotics, to name a few. Watch the video below as Motley Fool analyst Blake Bos discusses the safety standard and how these companies are tackling collaborative robotics.
