This episode of The Motley Fool's Market Checkup drills down on the hottest headlines and biggest market movers in the health-care sector along with an important update on the Affordable Care Act's implementation.
In this video, health-care analyst David Williamson discusses how Obamacare's troubled rollout is potentially even glitchier than feared. On its debut, many consumers were greeted with website failures that kept them from purchasing insurance policies. However, insurance companies may also be feeling the brunt of a rushed launch as well -- cases of corrupted files or incomplete customer information that make it difficult to finalize the process.
These troubles were highlighted in fairly harsh comments regarding the preparedness of the website from Aetna's CEO, Mark Bertolini, who said during a CNBC interview that it could take potentially years to get everything operating smoothly.
If there are troubles with the exchanges, it would highlight the cautious approach put forth by Aetna and Unitedhealth, but if the overwhelming demand seen in the early days holds up and the sickest customers are not the first in line, it would validate WellPoint's goal to claim the largest exchange footprint of the large insurers.
