Actor Don Cheadle's character from Iron Man 3, the Iron Patriot, is getting his own comic book. In the following video, Fool contributor Tim Beyers explains why Walt Disney (DIS -0.93%) investors should care.

Marvel announced the forthcoming series at last weekend's New York Comic Con. Writer Ales Kot and artist Garry Brown will team up on the book, which takes a closer look at Tony Stark's best friend, Col. James Rhodes.

We won't know how fans will take to the comic till it shows up in shops in 2014. But Tim sees this as Marvel creating what amounts to an indirect tie-in for fans of the Iron Man films who want to see more of the characters Cheadle and Robert Downey Jr. have brought to life on-screen. A franchise-building opportunity for Disney, in other words.

Will the effort pay off for Walt Disney investors? Tim answers this question and more in the video. Please watch and then leave a comment to let us know where you stand.
