Logitech (LOGI +2.51%) needs to develop a novel smartphone or tablet, Fool contributor Tim Beyers says in the following video.
Why? A broad shift to second-screen experiences has given devices more direct access and control over televised content. Think of the Chromecast. At a recent GigaOm conference, Netflix VP Todd Yellin described how the device could effectively make any mobile device a "first-screen" server of content to a TV.
He isn't the only one thinking this way. Twitter is working on a deal with Comcast whereby clicking on a tweet of a favorite program activates an on-demand TV menu, including associated video or even whole episodes.
Remotes are going to be largely left out of this shift, Tim asserts, which at some point will leave Logitech in need of a replacement for its Harmony all-in-one.
