Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz recently discussed energy policy at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington D.C., a talk headlined by the United States' objective of reducing its dependence on foreign oil. This has been the focal point of U.S. energy policy since the oil embargo in 1973, but our biggest threat is internal. Without proper infrastructure, particularly pipelines, the United States could miss out on the full potential offered by the shale oil and gas revolution now taking place. Our focus should first be on TransCanada's (TRP +0.13%) Keystone XL pipeline. Proper infrastructure not only benefits the oil and gas sector, but could be a contributing factor for millions of additional jobs in the United States.
