The explosive growth in crude oil and natural gas has North America discussing the real possibility of energy independence. This dream could come crashing down if the latest projections from the International Energy Agency come to fruition. 

The IEA estimates unconventional shale oil production will soar in the next few years, eventually peaking around 2020. While the energy organization references quickly depleting wells in shale fields, it is significantly underestimating the power of technology.
