Dominion Resources (D 1.10%) announced today that it has officially brought online three Indianapolis area solar farms totaling 28.6 MW of electricity, its third, and so far largest, solar project.

"The successful launching of these solar projects marks another milestone in Dominion's continuing development of solar energy," said David Christian, CEO of Dominion Resources' generation business unit, in a press release. "Their commercial debut is consistent with our goal of promoting a cost-effective and diversified mix of conventional, nuclear, wind and solar energy resources." Dominion says the three installations are capable of providing enough electricity for up to 7,200 homes.

As with most solar facilities, Dominion Resources has secured sales of its solar electricity through a 15-year power-purchase agreement (PPA), with AES Corporation's Indianapolis Power and Light Company.

While most known for its natural gas infrastructure, this is the third solar project Dominion Resources has opened up, all in 2013. The others are a 7.7 MW solar farm in Georgia and a 5 MW farm in Connecticut.
