Over the past 20 years, the Internet has upended more than a few entrenched industries. Retail, though, has been affected perhaps more than any other.
And like all things technology, times they are a-changing once again. The impact of the mobile web is being felt from the mom-and-pop stores on Main Street, to the big-box giants like Wal-Mart (WMT 1.62%), to the new(ish) kids on the retail block like Amazon.com (AMZN +2.38%) and eBay (EBAY 0.16%).
The only thing that is constant is change, a maxim particularly true in retail.
As history has shown, some of these players will adapt and thrive to the new mobile consumer, while others will move too slowly and fade.
