3M's Ceramic Sand Screens Boost Oil Production

The Motley Fool's energy bureau chief Joel South interviews 3M about their latest innovation in sand screens.

While at the 2014 Offshore Technology Conference in Houston, Motley Fool's energy bureau chief Joel South toured 3M's (MMM +1.38%) innovation lab, highlighting the company's oil and gas division. Joel interviewed Jeff Lavers, vice president and general manager of 3M oil and gas while there. 3M developed the division only two years ago, but it already offers the oil and gas industry innovative products to increase productivity and protect critical assets and workers.

In this interview, Joel explores how 3M's latest innovation in sand screens has enhanced the productivity of oil production. With the ceramic sand screens ten times harder and twice as stiff as traditional materials, Lavers explains how the ceramic material saves on replacement time and overall oil production.
