On Nov. 14, Wal-Mart (NYSE:WMT) released third-quarter earnings for the period ended Oct. 31.

  • Sales growth of 12% and earnings per share growth of 10.5% were balanced with a 0.54% improvement in gross margins and close to flat operating and net margins.
  • Inventory growth of 6.2% is impressive given the 12% gain in sales, but accounts receivable grew 39.9%, which bears watching.
  • Wal-Mart has been ranked by 918 community members in CAPS. Of those rankings, 80.6% gave Wal-Mart a whistling smiley face.
