On Feb. 14, deepwater drilling company Transocean (NYSE:RIG) released earnings for the fourth quarter ended Dec. 31.

  • Revenue rose by 53.8%, thanks to significant improvements in average daily revenues, or dayrates, and the reintroduction of a semi-submersible rig and the drill ship Deepwater Discovery.
  • Gross, operating, and net margins all increased considerably.
  • Free cash flow per share for the quarter ballooned 77% on the back of a 60% increase in FCF, combined with Transocean's repurchasing nearly 10% of its shares over the past year.
  • Four hundred Motley Fool CAPS players now see Transocean outperforming the S&P 500.
