On Feb. 22, Emdeon (NASDAQ:HLTH) released fourth-quarter earnings for the period ended Dec. 31.

  • On Nov. 16, 2006, Emdeon completed the sale of a 52% interest in its Emdeon Business Services segment, excluding the VIP's business, to an affiliate of General Atlantic LLC for $1.76 billion.
  • Revenues dropped by 12.8%, mainly because Emdeon Business Services is included in Emdeon's consolidated financial results for the first 47 days of the fourth quarter of 2006 as against the entire fourth quarter of 2005.
  • EPS jumped due to lower cost of operations and a significant buyback of shares.
  • The company has given guidance of total revenue in the range of $531 million to $554 million, which translates into EPS of $0.17 to 0.24 for fiscal 2007.
  • The company's free cash flow improved, mainly due to higher operational cash flows.
  • The company repurchased 129.2 million shares of its common stock, representing about 45% of the outstanding shares immediately prior to a tender offer, at $12 per share. Since this repurchase was made in December and the year-end share count is based on a weighted average over the full year, the full impact of this repurchase is not reflected in the year-end diluted share count.
