Stocks climbing to 10 times their original price are rare breeds -- but they're not impossible to find. Especially when you have Fools for friends.

The market's best stocks include companies that have risen dozens of times in value by taking advantage of the market's weaknesses. These aren't penny stocks; they're viable companies with sound business prospects, achieving phenomenal returns. Finding just one or two of these monstrously successful firms can help you establish a winning portfolio.

In search of Bigfoot
Turbine maker A-Power Energy has the wind in its sails these days, after announcing that it would build a manufacturing facility here in the U.S. to supply turbines to North and South America. After languishing on becalmed seas, wind power is suddenly gusting again. Look no further than the recent news that New Jersey power company NRG Energy (NYSE:NRG) would purchase a developer of offshore wind projects, Bluewater Wind.

In addition to A-Power Energy's forthcoming manufacturing facility, the company had previously divulged plans to build a $1.5 billion wind farm project in Texas. A-Power has also been named the turbine provider for another Texas wind farm project.

With all these projects gathering strength, A-Power's stock is blowing the lid off the market. Shares are up some 12% so far in trading today, and nearly 170% so far this year. CAPS member PhilLabrasca figures the turbine maker is undervalued:

With normal operating activity, the stock price is at a fair value. If they managed to follow through with any of the three MOUs they have released, this stock is well below fair value. These large projects have a very high profit margin and collectively offer far over a billion in revenue.

Tell us over on the A-Power CAPS page whether you think this wind turbine player will gust higher.

A roll of the dice
Casino stocks took a tough roll in the recession, as gamblers picked up their chips and went home. But their cold streak has at least one minor benefit. Amid the smoldering wreckage of flameouts like Trump, Tropicana, and Station Casinos, all of which filed for bankruptcy protection, healthier rivals are now looking to pick up their charred remains.

Boyd Gaming has expressed an interest in acquiring the assets of Station, though the failed gambling house has rebuffed those efforts so far. It wants to restructure and emerge from court protection.

The casinos are betting the house that the worst is over for Las Vegas, and they're counting on gamblers flocking back to Sin City. According to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, in September, the city enjoyed a year-over year increase in visitors for the first time since May 2008. Roughly 3 million people visited Vegas that month, a 4.3% jump over the same period in 2008.

CAPS member kevhead64 is not impressed with the prospects, though: "I just cant see the recovery here for years. Too many rooms and not enough people coming through the airport."
