The video game industry isn't all just fun and games. It's one of the fastest growing, most innovative industries on the planet.

Here are a few interesting facts that you might not be aware of:

  • 68% of U.S. households play computer or video games, and 42% own at least one video game console.
  • The average age for a video game player is 35 and, in 2009, 25% of gamers were over the age of 50!
  • Video gaming is projected to easily outpace growth in most other forms of entertainment like movies and music.
  • Online games and those developed for mobile devices like the iPhone and iPad are set to double over the next few years.

And get this. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, released last fall, wasn't just the fastest-selling video game in history. It was the biggest entertainment release ever . That's measured against mega-blockbuster movie releases like Avatar and the last Harry Potter flick.

At Stock Advisor, we've continually pounded the table on the video game industry, because we think it's primed for huge returns in the years to come. That's why Stock Advisor analyst Matthew Argersinger and David Gardner, Motley Fool co-founder and the Fool's biggest video gamer himself, are heading to Los Angeles on June 15 - 17 for this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3).
