Research In Motion (BB 1.09%) announced the introduction of the BlackBerry 10 from its Waterloo, Ontario, headquarters today. The launch of the latest smartphone offerings from RIM is scheduled for Jan. 30 at multiple locations across the world. The unveiling will include two BlackBerry phones, both utilizing RIM's new BlackBerry 10 platform.
According to CEO Thorsten Heins, "In building BlackBerry 10, we set out to create a truly unique mobile computing experience that constantly adapts to your needs." The new platform and smartphones will be, "integrated into a user experience -- the BlackBerry Flow -- that is unlike any smartphone on the market today."
The BlackBerry 10 has received FIPS 140-2 certification, meaning the new platform has already met security and user guidelines set forth by the U.S. government. RIM's BlackBerry 10 features include Flow and Hub technologies for seamless navigation, a "smart" function called BlackBerry Keyboard that adapts to users' typing habits, and Balance, which allows users to securely switch from business to personal use.
