WASHINGTON (AP) -- White House personnel will face furloughs or pay cuts to satisfy automatic budget cuts that went into effect March 1, joining thousands of other federal workers facing similar wage reductions.
The White House said Wednesday that four of the 11 divisions under the Executive Office of the President have sent furlough notices to their staff. All of the more than 460 White House Office staffers would be affected.
White House staff is divided into higher ranking officials known as commissioned officers who cannot take leave and thus will get a pay cut. Noncommissioned officers will have to take an unpaid day off. The furloughs range from three to 10 days spread over three to seven months. The furloughs were first reported by Politico.
